sewing machine strops!!

Oh dear ...trying my hardest to finish stuff but now two machines are playing up and I think that, like children and animals they sense your frustration! Stopped for lunch so we can all think about our behaviour and make amends:)

This is how far we got...

More little love bugs appearing - but currently refusing to have wheels:(

And hear appears to be a pier...Not sure if its the stickyness of the soluble fabric or the tension thats causing problems here:(

Still on a cheerier note I did find this Horrockses gem...I've made clothes from curtains before but not from a duvet cover! Still their blog says they might start re doing dresses that would be perfect...especially for us Lindy Hoppers:)http://blog.horrocksesfashions.co.uk/

Oh well better go and sweet talk those machines now...

Why is starting so much easier than finishing??

Why is it so hard to finish what you started! I've been looking round the blogs and its (sort of) good to know its not just a me thing:) So this is the week when I'm going to get things done;0 watch this space! I've had a great start(!) to the new year but so far I have 5 unfinished pieces...one a day this week?? Can I do it? That's my challenge.

A breakthrough!

I came back to my funfair ideas after having a wee break to do some landscape commissions..the piece I was working on didn't look right - too staid and lacking movement - and I couldn't find my sketch plan for it; so I thought I'd just add some more fabric to make the piece bigger and,hopefully, more free. Instead I've ended up chopping the whole thing to pieces and reaassembling! The first cut was a bit nerve wracking but I'm feeling a lot happier with how its going. In fact, I'd better go and do some more stitching now!

(I'm beginning to realise that a little stitching each day helps keep me sweet!)

New Year ReVolutions!

The wolfish wind is howling down the chimney, the window frames are squawking like frightened fowl and tonight we didn't get round to lighting the fire:( I'm sat with my feet on a cushion to keep away the draughts - floorboards are practical but carpet is getting tempting! 

Kids are back at school and I've had my first full day in my work room, I did miss them - just a little! But it felt great to be back at work. I love my job - just need to make it a bit more cost effective!

I will make lots of work this year! British Craft Trade Fair is only a couple of months off now...

Been having fun playing with sketchbook images - what do you think?

I finished off a belated present for my sister today - it's a celebration of her wedding day featuring the church and the barge where the reception was held. I think this idea will go into my Folksy shop as a possible commission idea...

Couldn't quite fit it all on the scanner - but photo's will have to wait for daylight!

Craft Fair Tomorrow!

So, nearly ready..I think..Just a bit more sewing to finish and a stand to assemble...and i might try and squeeze in one more lampshade:) The Indoor Craft Market is on the Fish Quay in North Shields  - come and say hi - and get Fish & Chips for lunch!

Indoor Craft Market

I'm planning on having a stand at the Indoor Craft market on Sunday 27th November - come and see me?! 

I'll be selling small gifts and Christmas bits and pieces like these

Along with some bits from the Useful Art Company so come and get festive!

I'm hoping it will be lots of fun check out the website/facebook page - there's belly dancing and all sorts!

Fusion fun in Dufton

If you want a great relaxing weekend head to Dufton YHA We had our textile residential there last weekend and it was fab - a little cosier than usual with bunk bed dorms to share (tuneful snoring all round!) but the place was lovely and Simon the manager was fantastic- great cooked breakfast on Sunday AND he didn't mind the place being filled with textile paraphernalia!

Seeing Stars

This week i have been mostly seeing stars and stitching Crazy:) 

Its a funfair piece - not just my state of mind!

Evenings are now being spent cosied up by the fire stitching bunting (Check out loveTEXTILES on Folksy!) It really seems to have turned Autumnal very quickly - and the house spiders are creeping out!

apparently if you put conkers about the place they stay away - must not like the smell or something! 

 

 

What a busy day...

Been here there and everywhere today....Boiling hot in the attic and what was I doing? Making Christmas Bunting:) Something I thought I'd try on Folksy...pictures to follow

Then there was a mad bike ride to Gateshead to see the fabulous exhibition at the Sanctuary Artspace - otherwise known as St Edmunds Church on the High Street. The exhibiton 'Tres Mujeres' featured the opera singer Rachel Dyson singing a piece by Hildegard of Bingen from the 13th Century - amazing to hear - one voice filling the whole space..

From the sublime..mad dash back home for bedtime stories then off out again to the Art House for the Northumbrian evening...new pieces featured

So now its time for a cup of tea..and maybe a Rington's ginger biscuit!
